Places you will visit today are: Terracotta Warriors which were made to guard the tomb of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the founder of the Qin Dynasty. It was accidentally discovered by a group of peasants while they were digging a well in 1974 but instead of water, they found 6,000 soldiers, archers, chariots and horses. It is a one of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century. Xi’an Grand Mosque is one of the oldest, largest and best preserved mosques in China. It was built in 742 during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.). Bell Tower is situated in the heart of Xi’an city. It was built in 1384 by Emperor Zhu Yuan Zhang as a way to dominate the surrounding countryside and provide early warning of attack by rival rulers. Drum Tower is located northwest of the Bell Tower, and built in 1380 during the reign of Emperor Hong Wu of the Ming Dynasty. The bell was struck at dawn and the drum was beaten at sunset to indicate the end of the day. Activities: Our tour for the day starts after breakfast at the hotel. Places you will visit today are: Shaanxi History Museum which have more than 370,000 exhibits. It is divided in to three different exhibition halls, and exhibits are displayed according to dynasties. It is a great place to learn Chinese history. Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built in 652 AD to collect Buddhist materials that were taken by famous Buddhist Monk Xuan Zang from his 17 year pilgrimage to India. It was initially built five floors, several decades later, two more floors were added. Today it is 64 meters tall. Xi’an City Wall was built in 13th century on the foundation of the original Tang Forbidden City. The southern half of the city wall has been significantly rebuilt and it attained its present brick-faced form in 1568. The full circuit of City Wall is 14km long and average height is 12 meters. There is an 11 meter wide roadway on top of the wall. Today, the roadway is a promenade enjoyed by strolling tourists and bicyclists. Sites you will visit today are: Lanzhou Provincial Museum has more than 75,000 historical and natural exhibits. It has a collection of various color-painted potteries of Neolithic Age and treasures of ancient grottoes. Bingling Buddha Caves, Bingling means “Ten Thousand Buddha’s” in Tibetan Language. The Bingling Buddha Caves was first started the construction of 183 caves began in 366 AD and continued for a thousand of years. There are now 183 niches, 694 stone statues, 82 clay sculptures and some 900 square meters' of murals. Bingling Buddha Caves is famous for its stone sculptures. Activities: Our tour for the day starts after breakfast at the hotel in Jiayuguan. We will drive to Dunhuang from Jiayuguan. The sites you will visit today are: Mogao Grottoes which is commonly known as caves of Thousand Buddha’s. Mogao Grottoes is a Buddhist treasure house with paintings and murals from 1,600 years ago. The carving work began in 366 AD., amidst of natural erosion and human destruction, today 492 caves are survived, and of which 30 are open to the public. There are also five surviving timber structures whose history dates back to Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) Dynasties. The whole grotto complex is regarded as the world's largest and best-preserved treasure house of Buddhist scriptures, murals, and architectural designs. It is one of the well preserved earth city in the world. Karez Underground Water System is an irrigation system of wells connected by underground channels, is considered as one of the three great ancient projects in China. According to the records, the history of Kerez Underground Water System history can be traced back to 103 B.C. Gaocheng Ancient City was started in the first century B.C, and it was a key point on the ancient Silk Road. Flaming Mountain was formed in the organic movements of the Himalayas fifty million years ago. It is located in the middle of the Turpan Depression and running from east to west is 98 km long and 9 km wide. Activities: We will head to Urumqi after breakfast at the hotel. The places you will visit in Urumqi today are: Heavenly Lake is located in Tianshan Mountain Range and 110 km from Urumqi city. You will take sightseeing bus to Heavenly Lake from the parking lot after we arrived. Heavenly Lake is 1980 meters above the sea level with a crescent shape. You can take a boat trip in Heavenly Lake, or do short trekking in the forest or in the mountain. The people living around Heavenly Lake are Kazak people who are nomads. You will have a chance to visit Kazak Yurts and try their dishes if you wish to. Xinjiang Museum is a largest museum in Xinjiang. It is a centre of collection and cultural relics in Xinijang. The places you will visit today are: We will be driving on Karakorum Highway (KKH) which begins in Kashgar in China and ends in Islamabad of Pakistan. The total length of KKH is more the 1000KM, and we drive 200KM of it in order to get to Karakul Lake. Opal Village is an hour drive from Kashgar and it is the last village before we enter the Kunlun Mountain Range. We buy fresh fruits and Nan bread for our tour for the day. It is Monday market here which is very busy and traditional. Corner Lake or Bulung Kul is tranquil shallow lake. Bulung Kul is originating from Karakul Lake, this river carries sand to the lake which has then been picked up by the wind and blown to create impressive sand covered mountains on the far side. It is the good spot for taking photos. Karaku Lake is 360 meters above the sea level. Karakul Lake is located between the towering Muztagh Ata and Kongger Mountains, both rising over 7000 meters and permanently snow-covered. The area around the lake is inhabited by Kyrgyz people who are nomads and lives in yurt or stone house. You will have a chance to visit Kyrgyz yurts or stone house, and you can try some of Kyrgyz dishes. You will also have a chance to do trekking around the lake. Activites: We will start our tour after the tea in Kyrgyz house. We will drive another 100km on KKH to reach Tashkorgan. Tashkorgan is an interesting small town located on the Pamir Plateau. This area was extremely isolated until the rebuilding of the Karakoram highway in 1987 and even today the local community still live in a very traditional fashion with only a single road reaching here from Kashgar it has retained a certain uniqueness. The population numbers around 33,000 people of which Tajik are the majority at 87%. Bordering this county are the countries of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. This region is commonly known as the main road of the "old Silk Road" the main route leading from China to West Asia. Sunday Market is open every day but Sunday is a much more crowded and big day for business. Id Kah Mosque is the biggest mosque in China, and it was built in 1442. This mosque is still active and holds five times daily prayer, Friday prayer, Kurban Festival Prayer, and Rozi Festival Prayer. Kashgar Old Town is famous for the winding narrow streets of its historic Old Town. Old Town in Kashgar demonstrates a fascinating architectural style of mud built houses with supporting wooden beams and beautiful carved wooden ceilings. Inhabitants of Old Town are 100% Uyghurs. Appak Hoja Tomb also known as Fragrant Concubine Tomb. It is said that, altogether seventy two persons from five generations of the same family were buried in the Apak Hoja Mausoleum. It was built around 1640 AD. It is a very tranquil place and a beautiful example of Uyghur Islamic Architecture. Handcraft Street is place where different types of craftsmen making different types of handicrafts on the site of the street. They make kitchen utensils, copper pots, musical instruments, and so on.
